Challah cover embroidery

I'm the roomparent for Gunnar's toddler class, which means I'm the lucky one organizing holiday gifts for the teachers, specialists and office staff for his grade level.  I really hate asking parents for tons of money, especially with the economy right now, so I figured I'd make two of the 8 of the gifts myself to help keep costs down.

I stiched up two Challah covers using crisp linen fabric and regular 6 strand embroidery floss.  (Challah is a Jewish bread that is traditionally covered with a opaque cloth while it is being blessed for Shabbat).

Here's a closeup of the embroidery.  Both the star and the dreidel patterns are from Sublime Stitching.

Yes, I know, the Jewish star pattern isn't quite finished.  I did stich in those little outspray thingies that you can see an outline of, but I finished it in parking lot of the school about 5 minutes before the gifts were presented.  So no pic of the final fully finished embroidery, sorry.

I Luv Veggies

I made my friend Katy a little something for her birthday.  She likes to cook and bake and do all things 'kitchen-y', so I thought an oversized flour sack tea towel would do the trick.  I use mine all the time for covering rising dough, underneath cooling cookies, drying dishes.. surely she could use another towel, right?

How fun is this pattern!  You mix and match veggies and faces for a custom-of-sorts creation. Sublime stitching rocks, especially when you don't feel like self-drafting a design.

Happy birthday Katy! Hope you like it! :)

A tank and a onesie.

Ive been doing a little bit of simple embroidery lately. I made this tank for my friend who is a knitting fanatic. The ball of yarn with knitting needles (all in black, I wanted to keep it simple) is right smack in between where the shoulder blades would hit when wearing the tank. This stitching was a bit tricky since the tank was stretchy and ribbed.

And then I made this lavender and light pink prissy poodle one a white onesie for my friends little girl. Yes, I know, the pictures all stink. Sorry! I took them practically in the dark and at the last minute, serves me right. Both these patterns are from Sublime Stitching. Jenny Hart rocks.
